K.c. Karen is always fixated on
detail and line which brings an amazing touch to each client. As a free lance hairstylist/colorist
and actress she divides her time between the two passions. Currently she
has been seeing clients, for the
past four years, in the lovely space TSUBO a gentle LOFT in the kinzie corridor.
K.c. loves the space and the team! She trained with Kathy Simon(mekka
system), Anthony Christiano(formerly of Mario Tricoci-currently
represented by Timothy Priano), The Aveda Institute and more. She has
worked with Bridals, Guess Fashion, Jenny Jones, Actor Photo Shoots,
Broadway Actors, and numerous theatrical productions. She specializes in
short modern/funky haircuts or the heavier version of 'period' or
classic short haircuts and blondes. She looks at skin tone to determine
shade and dimension of hair color. She also, has
a keen eye for period styles and clean 'long' classic beauty, think,
Grace Kelly or Rita Hayworth. Her philosophy is first listen to the
client, and then look at
proportion in the shape that applies to the facial feature. She is a
licensed cosmetologist in Illinois and Missouri and has a Bachelors
degree in theatre performance from University of Missouri-Kansas City.
As an actress she trained in a classical theatre
program with an incredible faculty at UMKC whom consisted of Theodore
Swetz(trained with Stella Adler), Joseph Price(founding member of Red Orchid
Theatre/Chicago)Jennifer Martin ( Movement)Louis Colianni Voice(Linklater).
Since those great days she has worked with some amazing people here in
Chicago, and is currently a company member at Redtwist Theatre,
www.redtwist.org Recently she
has been seen as R.c. in the critically acclaimed production of Tracy Lett's BUG, other Chicago credits include,
Lady Capulet(TPS), Lee in Marvin's Room(Redtwist),Caliban,The Tempest (Groundup),Egeus
A
Midsommer Night's Dream(Groundup) Julia in The Last Judgement(Boxer
Rebellion), Madam De Volange in Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Redtwist), Second
City, The Peep Hole (Donny's Sky Box) to name a few.
Her third and most precious passion
is the love of nature and animals. Her very young years were spent on a
horse farm where she gained a great respect for mother nature. She rode
professionally in the circuit horse show venue and now continues her work
with animals through volunteer and support of numerous organizations.
Currently she is volunteering at Tree House Cat Shelter, and is working with
several dog shelters in the area. Her philosophy is "just try to help them
one at a time and be sure to adopt or foster a shelter animal, they're
angels in disguise."
